John Stepp
Head of Ventures
John Stepp is the Head of Ventures at Saluda Grade. Mr. Stepp joined Saluda Grade in February 2022. He is responsible for sourcing, underwriting and executing equity investments for Saluda Grade’s venture funds, driving value creation for portfolio companies, and facilitating realizations of portfolio company stakes. Mr. Stepp’s career spans both public and private market investing. He was previously with MatlinPatterson, where he focused on debt-for-control private equity investing. Notably, he led the turnaround of and devised a growth strategy for Flagstar Bank, a regional bank and mortgage originator and servicer, after the Global Financial Crisis. Mr. Stepp later joined Millennium Management, where he covered multiple sectors and invested across the capital structure in public markets. He began his career at Rothschild in the Restructuring group. Mr. Stepp earned a BA from Georgetown University.
